Daphne - Seidelbast
Beautiful Plants for the
Charming Garden

Daphne x jintyae ‘Pink Cascade’  C.D. Brickell & A.R. White (2005) | Daphne x pudica  Halda (2000)

Hybrid parents: Daphne petraea x Daphne rodriguezii

spontaneous hybrid / ca. 0,4 tall and a bit wider / evergreen / scented / not hardy, best suited for the greenhouse / rich flowering /

named after the wife Jinty of the late Hugo Latymer

A correct registration of a new Daphne hybrid comprises a description in English and Latin and also the storage of herbarium material of the parent plants and the new hybrid at a Botanical Institute.

In case of Daphne rodriguezii as a parent plant, the herbarium material of Mr. Halda did not show this species (article in the Daphne Society Newsletter Vo. 7, No. 1, Summer 2005, White & Brickell).

The conclusion is that, in case of Mr. Halda’s Daphne hybrids Daphne x pudica it is better to use the name Daphne x jintyae and instead of Daphne x lepida it is better to use the name Daphne x latymeri.

It is sad that the other Daphne rodriguezii hybrids of Mr. Halda,  Daphne x seibertii and Daphne x blanda are naturally also doubtful, especially because no pictures or hybrid-plants are available.
