Daphne tangutica  Maximowicz (1881)

 

distribution S+E China, Nepal, Bhutan, and N-Myanmar, at altitudes up to 4000 m / grows in sparse forests and between shrubs / plants can reach 2,5 m tall but in most cases 1,5 m is the limit in our region / evergreen / hardy / flowers twice a year / fragrance / big red fruits / often used as rootstock / similar to Daphne retusa /

 

several forms of Daphne tangutica are in cultivation, perhaps some of them are garden hybrids with other daphnes because Daphne tangutica behaves very dominant in case of a hybridized mother-plant

 

Hybrids with Daphne tangutica are: Daphne x mantensiana, Daphne x ‘Kilmeston Beauty’, Daphne x colorata, Daphne x perfecta, Daphne x splendida and the new Daphne x ‘Vogelsangbachtal’
